Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 4, 2026
AppealMyTax helps homeowners find out whether a property is over-assessed and how much they could save on property taxes. This policy explains what we collect, what we do with it, and what we never do, both on the website and in our Chrome browser extension. The short version: we don't sell your data, we keep what we collect to a minimum, and the browser extension stores nothing and tracks nothing.
The Chrome extension
The AppealMyTax Chrome extension (“Property Tax Savings Checker”) shows you whether a home looks over-assessed while you browse listings on Zillow, Redfin, and Realtor.com, and lets you check any address from its toolbar popup. Here is exactly how it handles data:
- What it reads. On a supported listing page, it reads the property's address from the page (and, in the popup, the address you type). That address is sent to our public API at appealmytax.dev to look up assessment and comparable-sales data. Nothing else on the page is read or sent.
- What it stores. Nothing. The extension keeps no history, no accounts, and no local database of the addresses you view. It uses the minimal
activeTabpermission and requests no access to your browsing history, cookies, or other sites. - What it tracks. Nothing. There are no analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts inside the extension. Address lookups to our API are anonymous; we do not attach them to your identity, and we do not build a profile of you.
- No sale of data. We do not sell, rent, or share the addresses you look up with any third party. They are used only to return the over-assessment result you asked for.
Our API requests are served over standard web infrastructure (hosting and CDN providers), which may log technical request metadata such as IP address and timestamp for security and reliability, as virtually all websites do. We do not use those logs to identify you.
The website
On appealmytax.dev you can search a property and see a free analysis without creating an account or giving us an email. If you choose to give us your email (for a report, deadline alerts, or a waitlist) or buy a packet, we collect only what we need to deliver it:
- Email address, when you submit it, so we can send you the report or alerts you requested.
- Property details you enter or look up, to generate your analysis and packet.
- Payment information, handled entirely by our payment processor (Stripe). We never see or store your full card number.
- Basic usage analyticson the website (e.g. which pages convert), used in aggregate to improve the product, not to identify you personally. Your typed street address and property account number are not sent to our analytics providers, and the website's address field is masked in session replays.
We use this data only to provide and improve the service. We do not sell your personal information. You can ask us to delete your data at any time (see below).
Service providers
We rely on a small set of vendors to run the service: Stripe (payments), Resend (sending the emails you request), Vercel (hosting and aggregate web analytics), Turso (database), Google Analytics (aggregate traffic and conversion measurement), Microsoft Clarity (masked session-quality measurement), and Ahrefs (aggregate web analytics). They process data only to perform their function for us. Public property records used in your analysis come from county appraisal districts and other official government sources.
Your choices and rights
You can use the free analysis and the extension without giving us any personal information. If you have shared an email or made a purchase, you can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data, and you can unsubscribe from any email using the link in that email.
To make any of these requests, email john@appealmytax.dev.
Children
AppealMyTax is intended for property owners and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the website or extension after a change means you accept the updated policy.
